Student Leadership

Providing meaningful opportunities to grow leadership skills both inside and outside the classroom, is a key feature of the experience for students at Al Sahwa Schools.

Student Councils – Primary & Secondary

Action is the core of student agency and an overarching outcome of International-mindedness. Where students are empowered at every stage of their learning journey, they then have the opportunity to develop leadership skills.

Student Council provides authentic opportunities for students to collaborate and be involved in the decision-making process that shapes their learning.

Students from Grades 1-12 classes are elected annually by their peers to represent the views of all students. These class representatives work to enhance and improve the school experience for all by making suggestions and sharing ideas.

In addition, older students elect a male and female president and two vice presidents (Grades 6 – 10 and 11 – 12). The student council executive convenes meetings at regular intervals with the general student council and follow up with meetings with the School Leadership to share concerns and make suggestions.

Primary School Monitors

An additional dimension of student leadership is added through having class monitors who serve on six weeks rotation. This encourages more students to participate in a leadership role.

Additional Leadership Opportunities

While we have the structured student leadership bodies, students also have the opportunities to develop and display their leadership skills through inter class activities, school events, PSE, service learning and CAS projects.

Student Council Members must display:

  • Learner Profile and Core Values
  • Leadership Skills
  • Time management skills
  • Be Creative
  • Be a team player
  • Be responsible
  • Be committed
