Technology & Learning (inc. Devices / BYOD)

Technology for Learning

Technology is an increasingly important aspect of everyday life and school. At Al Sahwa we prioritise technology for learning through our 1:1 Chromebook policy. We are proudly the first Google Reference and Acer Education Innovation School in Oman. As part of their enrolment all students from grade 4 onwards receive the latest model of Acer Chromebooks. This provides a common platform with their teachers.

We use Google Classroom for daily technology centered learning and ManageBac for reporting. Online Safeguarding is also important to us, therefore we use the excellent ‘Securely software’ to protect our students from unwanted content.

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)

Older students who study IT at exam level benefit from more “digital choice” and exposure to a range of platforms.

For IT, Design and Computer Science subjects where a greater choice of apps and programs is required, we offer a BYOD option for Grade 10-12.

High Quality Learning

We believe that quality teaching leads to quality learning and this is the key marker for a successful school. To promote high quality learning we have teaching standards based around our own pedagogical approaches that maximise student progress. As an IB World School we embrace inquiry learning, approaches to learning skills and opportunities to ‘live’ the IB Learner Profile. This can be felt in our classrooms through a focus on group work, formative feedback and assessment projects.

Every student is unique and learns differently, so our assessment rubrics leave room for student choice to encourage creativity and demonstrate mastery. It is important for us to equip students with presentation skills so opportunities for public speaking are promoted in lessons and in the wider school community.

Learning doesn’t just happen in the classroom and we believe service learning is essential for our students to develop International Mindedness. As an IB World School we run Service Learning projects throughout all grades with the Creativity, Action and Service(CAS) programme in IBDP.

For students with additional language or learning needs we have a dedicated Support for Learning department.
